Trouble in Mind

Written by Richard M. Jones (1892-1945)

blues/folk song sung by Patricia Cummings

Just about everyone who is human has felt the way the writer of this song felt when writing the blues. Blues music is a distinct American genre, seemingly connected, in ways, to another American music genre:  jazz.

This song represents a fine example of the Blues in this website's Sampling of international and American music. When I sang it, I was not feeling like jumping off a bridge or being run over by a train. I just love "singing the blues."

This song is actually a hopeful one. "Trouble in mind, I'm blue, but I won't be blue always," indicates an expectation that life will improve in the future. My hope, as I record this song in September 2009, is that life will improve for all Americans as we face challenges on many fronts.
