a traditional Irish song of Rebellion
sung by Patricia Lynne Grace Cummings
This is another song that I heard often, during my youth. It was recorded by a number of folk artists in the 1960s.
The word "pike" refers to "an infantry weapon with a pointed steel or iron head on a long wooden shaft." - The New Oxford American Dictionary, page 1294.
The origin of the word "pike," originating in the early 16th century (1500s) is from the French word pique, is a variation of the French verb, piquer, which means "to pierce."
I am looking for any photos of Ireland to add to my Irish Music pages. If anyone has one or two to share, full photo credit will be given. Send to: pat@quiltermuse.com
