21 Terrific Patchwork Bags
A Book Review
by Patricia L. Cummings
The book, 21 terrific patchwork bags by Susan Briscoe has something for everyone! There are bags of
all styles, shapes, and intended uses. This book was published in the UK by
David & Charles.
One always takes a chance when ordering a book unseen. However, this one
is a winner. The rice sack bag is an “eye-catching shoulder bag worked with
stitch n’ flip and Sashiko quilting.” The fan purse is "foundation pieced
in subtle multi-print fabrics and quilted with metallic thread.” The tough
tote bag is “a chance to use your favorite patchwork block and big stitch
quilting,” while the quilter’s set is comprised of "essential bags to meet
all of your quilting travel needs.”
The types of print fabrics used impart a Japanese flavor to many of the
finished examples. This book is a wealth of information, with clear
diagrams, and step-by-step photos. There are ideas for customizing bags to
suit you. Whether you need information on how to add a lining, a zipper or
strong straps, this book is just what you need. This book will inspire you and provide many hours of enjoyment in
making bags for your needs and possibly for gift giving.
