Remick Museum Visit 2007

Photo Essay:  Talking to the Animals

Anticipation was high, as Jim and I ventured along the country roads that lead through the town of Tamworth to one of our favorite museum sites in New England. Not unlike the Billings Farm and Museum in Woodstock, Vermont, the Remick Country Doctor Farm and Museum, situated in the foothills of Mt. Chocorua, is host to many activities for all ages and is home to many four-legged creatures, as well. On this bright, warm September day, Jim had brought along his camera to capture some pasture scenes, just for you.

Pulling into the tree-lined parking lot, we were greeted by a flock of wild turkeys who seemed to be undaunted by our having parked the car. They leisurely strolled right past the vehicle, while Jim took photos of them from inside.

While I was chatting with staff members, Jim wandered outside to begin snapping pictures. There is new fencing and a recently dedicated, gravel-lined, walking trail that now goes through and around all of the various pasture areas and exits near the yellow farm buildings on the other side of the complex.

The museum has begun to assist in the preservation of heritage breed animals, and so they have a variety of cows. At the moment, they appear to have two calves on hand, one with a mother cow, and one alone.

Remick Sheep - in the grass

You've heard of "snakes in the grass?" Well, these are sheep in the grass!

"Really, Henrietta?" Remick hens share a little gossip.

"This photo shoot is over. We have had enough of you tourists!"

Other files about the Remick Museum exist on this website and on our blog. If you have the chance to travel to northern New Hampshire, don't fail to stop in. The folks there are friendly, the country ambiance breathtaking, and the views unbeatable. If you key in "Remick Museum" in our word search function on the left hand side bar, at the top of this page, you will be able to read more about this wonderful resource that New Hampshire calls its own.
