A Book Review
by Patricia L. Cummings
The book, Quilt and Embellish in One Step!, by Linda Potter provides her new "Needle Magic" techniques that have fast and pleasing results when finishing a variety of projects. Published by C&T Publishing, the book seems to be just right for those individuals who would like to add some hand quilting to their machine- quilted quilts, but do not want to worry about making tiny, perfect stitches.
New Paths to Creativity
The techniques featured build on other needlework traditions, specifically the Japanese needlework known as sashiko, as well as Victorian decorative stitching. The author gives you permission to use needles other than betweens! She also offers suggestions for thread colors that will make your stitches sizzle and will add excitement to the final product.
Photos Provide Inspiration
There are many photos and detailed instructions to lead you on a path to thinking of innovative ways to finish quilts that will make your quilt stand out from the crowd. The stitch and bead embellishments will be fun to do and they will delight all who see your work.
Workshops Popular
This book was first published in 2004, but word of it is still getting around, and the author is in demand for her workshops, that reportedly are a lot of fun! A gallery of quilts made by quilt artists add further inspiration and ideas to an already rich book.
If you are looking for something to add to your "wish list" for Santa, this book would be a nice choice. The instructions are easy enough for a beginner, yet will charm the socks off of an advanced quilter. Well done! This book is like a breath of fresh air!
