Motherless Child

as sung and played by Patricia Cummings

two goats at Remick Museum

Animals treat each other better than humans treat each other!

During the time of slavery, families were often separated. When you listen to this song, keep in mind the innocent children who were taken away from their parents. Only then, will you begin to understand the significance of the words of this song: "Motherless Child."

I suppose the ultimate abandonment is death. However, long before my mother was passed on, I felt abandoned by her, emotionally, as well as distanced by her dementia. Therefore, this song has personal meaning to me.
