Future Heirlooms is an up and coming company that features designs for blocks and quilts. The business is the brainchild of talented designer, Margo Rose, whom I have known for almost four years, via an internet chat room. With Margo’s permission, I would like to show you a few of the blocks I have “market tested” for her. Margo always gathers a team of quilters to test the viability of her designs because there is no way that she could accomplish that much stitching in a lifetime. In the beginning, she was a one-woman company. In the course of the last several years, she has collected a team of angels who provide assistance with many components of the business. Some of her patterns are now available through Quilter’s Warehouse online, and are also starting to show up at various retail outlets. She also sells patterns directly from her website. Margo’s first entry in the publishing field was in having an original crochet pattern for an afghan, printed in a magazine. She kindly shared that pattern with me and I made one for a gift. Currently, Margo is running a yahoo list for quilters who are interested in her series called “Wee Village.” So far, more than nine hundred people have joined the list. Without further adieu, below are three appliqué patterns which I really enjoyed making. I looked at the patterns and decided for myself the way in which I would work them. Sometimes these methods differed from the instructions provided. The reason for this is that each person who does appliqué will have their his/her own preferences. My favorites are needle turn or freezer paper on top. In some cases, I have made the addition of decorative threads. Of course, a full report is always submitted to Margo, at the completion of every block test and she welcomes any suggestions from her testers. In each case, I really loved making these blocks.
