"Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms"

by Thomas Moore, Ireland, 1808

Believe me if all those endearing young charms
That I gaze on so fondly today
Were to change by tomorrow and flee from my arms
Like fairy gifts fading away
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art
Let thy loveliness fade as it will
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
Would entwine itself verdantly still
.

My father, John E. Grace, loved this song and its words (there is actually a second verse, too), and he would sing it often to my mother. He was a romantic in the truest sense of the word.

Played here on clarinet by John E. Grace.
