Mother’s Day 2008 - Surprise

My grandson, Patrick, soaking up some rays in Florida.
On the evening of Mother’s Day, the phone rang. The first thing I heard was “Now Boarding, Gate 40.” At least that is what I think I heard. Then, of course, I heard my son’s voice on a cell phone that was “breaking up.” It was one of those kind of surreal calls that you view on television cell phone ads. Nonetheless, it was good to hear his voice before day’s end.
He and his wife and the baby had flown to Fort Lauderdale, for the weekend, to watch an international diving competition. Rebecca had been on the diving team at Smith College, and they were meeting friends in Florida who are also very much “into” diving.
Patrick had the chance to walk on the beach, play with a ball, watch fish in a huge aquarium, etc. At almost a year and a half, he won’t remember any of it when he is grown, but he will be able to re-experience the event via photos.

A good time was had by all.
Signing off for now,
Grandmother Cummings
